Women in Islam

Selam aleykum.
I come from a non religious muslim family the only religious person in our family is my brother and he is really mean and because of him I hate religious muslim men because he always shouts at us and has zero respect for women he says that our prophet used to hit women so because of that women should be like slaves to their husbands. I want to ask you if it’s true that Muhammad used to hit women?
